Ferit Karahan’s second film Brother’s Keeper, which he co-wrote the screenplay with Gülistan Acet, won the Best Screenplay Award at the 38th International Fajr Film Festival in Tehran, Iran’s capital.

Ferit Karahan‘s new film Brother’s Keeper was won the FIPRESCI Award at the 71st Berlin International Film Festival and screened at festivals held in Hong Kong, Moscow, and South Korea. The 38th International Fajr Film Festival, which was just held in Tehran, awarded Brother’s Keeper the Best Screenplay Award. Ferit Karahan‘s script, co-written with Gülistan Acet, contains traces of the director’s childhood.

Brother’s Keeper‘s festival tour will continue with the 24th Shanghai International Film Festival, which will be held in China from 11 to 20 June 2021, and the 36th Valencian International Film Festival CINEMA JOVE, which will be held in Spain from 18 to 26 June 2021.

Yusuf and his best friend Memo are pupils at a boarding school for Kurdish boys, secluded in the mountains of Eastern Anatolia. When Memo falls mysteriously ill, Yusuf is forced to struggle through the bureaucratic obstacles put up by the school’s repressive authorities to try to help his friend. But by the time the adults in charge finally understand the seriousness of Memo’s condition and try to get him to the hospital, the school has been buried under a sudden, heavy snowfall. With no way out and now desperate to reach help, teachers and pupils engage in a blame game where grudges, feelings of guilt, and hidden secrets emerge, as time ticks mercilessly on and threatens to run out.

The film stars Ekin Koç, Mahir Pek, Cansu Fırıncı, Melih Selçuk, and child actor Samet Yıldız. Intramovies, based in Italy, is globally distributing the film, which was edited by Sercan Sezgin and Hayedeh Safiyari.

The Cannes Film Festival has announced many new additions to its 74th edition, which will take place from July 6 to July 17.

The highly anticipated “74. The Official Selection Films of the Cannes Film Festival was announced recently. Among the significant new releases are filmed by Gaspar Noé and Ari Folman, as well as a concert film featuring Bill Murray, who will be in Cannes. Folman, the director of Waltz With Bashir, returns with Where Is Anne Frank?, a modern animated drama that begins more than 70 years after the publication of The Diary Of Anne Frank and brings to life her imaginary friend, Kitty. The film will be seen in the Out of Competition section. Yohan Manca’s Mes Frères Et Moi, a debut feature about a young kid who aspires to be Pavarotti, has been added to Un Certain Regard. Midnight Screenings currently feature Arnaud and Jean-Marie Larrieu’s musical comedy Tralala, starring Mathieu Amalric, Mélanie Thierry, Bertrand Belin, Mawenn, Josianne Balasko, and Denis Lavant, and Audrey Estrougo’s Suprêmes, about the birth of hip-hop culture in France at the end of 80s. Special screenings will bring Bill Murray to Cannes for Andrew Muscato’s New Worlds, The Cradle Of A Civilization.Dario Argento, Françoise Lebrun, and Alex Lutz star in Noé’s Vortex, which will premiere in the new Cannes Première section. It’s described as a documentary-style look at the final years of a loving couple suffering from senility.

Commitment Hasan,” a film by Semih Kaplanoğlu, is also one of the festival’s selections. The festival, which is much anticipated, will take place from July 6 to July 17.
